Can You Become a Citizen of Bir Tawil?

Bir Tawil is claimed by the Sovereign Empire of Brendania, so citizenship of Bir Tawil is Brendanian citizenship, granted by the Crown. Earlier private claimants have sometimes invited "citizenship applications" of their own; those have no connection with the Empire.

The Imperial Constitution of Brendania identifies the Emperor, Brendan Smith I, as the founding citizen and permits the Crown to create rules for citizenship and naturalization. The rules will be promulgated by Imperial Decree.

When the Empire adopts citizenship rules, they will be published as a dated Imperial Decree and recorded in the Imperial Chronicle on this website.

The Empire of Brendania does not yet issue passports. Until it does, travellers must use the passport of their existing nationality; offering any other document at a border can lead to refusal of entry, fines, or arrest.

There are no settlements, water supply, or services in Bir Tawil, and reaching it requires passing through Egyptian or Sudanese territory. The Empire of Brendania has no settlement there and offers no relocation. Anyone present in the region remains subject to the laws of the states they passed through.

Offers to sell land, titles, passports, or citizenship in Bir Tawil should be treated with great caution. The Empire of Brendania sells no land, passports, or citizenship, and no other party has authority to do so.
