On October 21, 2026, by the Declaration of Independence, the Sovereign Empire of Brendania was founded.
By the Imperial Constitution of the same date, the Crown was vested in His Imperial Majesty Brendan Smith I. By the Imperial Act of Ratification, the founding instruments were adopted, the style of Emperor, King, and Supreme Leader was established, and hereditary succession was provided for within the House of Smith.
The Declaration claims Bir Tawil, a region of approximately 2,060 square kilometers on the frontier between Egypt and Sudan and until now terra nullius, as the sovereign territory of the Empire. The Empire will secure its sovereignty by peaceful means, in correspondence with its neighbors and with respect for the communities historically connected with the region.
The reign of Brendan Smith I is reckoned from the date of the founding proclamation.
